Western Multi-state Division -- Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, and Utah collaborate for CNE Accreditation
In 2014, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, and Utah agreed to form the Western Multi-State Division (WMSD). In 2016, California joined the states belonging to the WMSD. One of the primary functions is collaboration across borders for supporting nurses in our communities to provide accredited continuing nursing education (CNE) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCC/COA). As part of this cooperative effort the WMSD Continuing Nursing Education unit was formed and we are working together as the new WMSD Accredited Approver and Provider Unit (see Org Chart).
The Western Multi-State Division is an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
The Western Multi-State Division is an accredited provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
To further understand the importance of ANCC accreditation for quality CNE, we encourage you to read The Value of Accreditation for Continuing Nursing Education: Quality Education Contributing to Quality Outcomes.
The WMSD offers two approval processes for agencies/organizations/facilities to utilize to obtain continuing nursing education for programs they provide:
- Individual Activity Application: An individually approved continuing education activity is planned, implemented and approved for a single event.
- Approved Provider Application:
An approved provider may be an individual, institution, organization or agency responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, financing, record keeping and quality of nursing education activities. Rather than submit an application for a single event, you submit an application to become a provider of continuing education.
